4 Small Ways Elon Musk Impacted Our World In 2018

Elon Musk is an inspiration, inventor, genius and is known for his boldness. He has an idea and just goes for it. Despite his fear, he takes them head on and keeps moving forward. He has made many contributions to our world starting with X or Paypal, and leading up to Tesla, SpaceX, and The Boring Company.

However, many are fixated on his love life, his teary interviews, that one, not even a puff of weed hit, and how he looks. There seems to be a collaborative initiative to ‘take him down’ or to ‘stop Tesla’ while downplaying his good deeds and kind acts.

In this post, I want to cover four small ways that he has impacted us this year. When I say small, I mean not as much talked about as his Joe Rogan interview or his intense year with Twitter.  I also want to add a quick side note–his tears and his ‘outbursts’ as many call it, show that he is, like us, human. We shouldn’t punish him for being like us.  If you’ve ever cried during a sappy movie or got emotional over anything then you have no right to judge Elon.

Here are four small ways I feel that he has impacted us this year.

1.  Flint.

Flint doesn’t have clean water. Let me say this again. A city in the USA, Flint, MI, does not have clean water. There is lead in their water. Our government and media both used Flint’s crisis for political measures but did not come up with a solution. All talk and no action. When tweeted about it, Elon pledged to fix the water in people’s homes. He upgraded their filtration system, made sure the schools in Flint had clean water as well.

2. Flint Schools and Computers.

Not only did Elon help with the water crisis in Flint, but he also made sure Flint middle schoolers got laptops for school. The news of this broke right before Christmas. When I was in school, we were barely learning what a computer was. All of our teachers talked about these building-sized computers. Today, many schools make having a laptop a requirement and poor parents can’t afford food, let alone a computer for their child. Elon’s contribution shows that he cares for our future generations.

3.  Puerto Rico.

In 2017 Puerto Rico was devastated by Hurricane Maria. One of the things that no one really covered, except for NPR and Elektrek (that I’ve seen) is the fact that Elon, via Tesla, made sure the Children’s Hospital of Puerto Rico (and a few other places) had power. In 2018, Elon announced that he had about 11,000 projects going on in Puerto Rico

4.   Nevada.

Again, via Tesla, Elon is showing his love for our future generations.  Tesla gave $1.5 million in grant funds to Nevada schools. This is the first part of an even larger sum: $37M.  The funds will go toward helping students pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics careers.

So, along with creating a better solution to traffic, several successful space launches from SpaceX, the success of the Model 3, these four are part of an ever-growing list of Elon’s overall success.  What matters most is not his love life, his mistakes, or the fact that he sometimes gets teary-eyed, but the fact that Elon Musk cares about people and is doing things to better our world despite being mocked and bullied by many members of the media for it.
